Demo
Creation
By traveling to our studio or allowing us to locate and screen
a professional recording studio in your area, one of our producers
will work with you to select scripts and styles of VO that
are best suited for your sound. We will then direct your session,
coach you through your scripts and help you perform the best
read possible. The unfinished audio will be shipped to our
studios where one of our skilled producers will complete the
editing and producing process. This will allow you to take
the guesswork out of creating demos so that you can feel confident
you are creating a great, usable demo. VoiceHunter charges
$300-$500 depending on the type of demo you wish to create,
with discounts available for a multiple demo package. (Additional
costs may apply if you need to hire a studio to record your
dry VO.) (click here to apply) |

current work we are here to help. If you have existing work
or demos, one of our trained casting professionals will review
your material and give you a detailed review of your strengths
and weaknesses while providing helpful tips to focus and improve
your efforts. If you've never been on mic before we will book
a session for you at a recording studio in your area so that
we can review the material that way. These critique sessions
prove to be very helpful for beginner talent on a budget.

REAL
Facts & Statistics about getting started in Voiceover work
A career in VO is just that, a career. You are embarking
on a venture that could very well mold the rest of your working
life. And while some talent choose to only pursue voiceover work
as a hobby or a side venture those that find the most success are
the ones that treat their new endeavor as a full time job.
Competition is fierce. You are one of hundreds of people getting
started in this business every day. You are also one of 25,000 talent
looking for the same job as the next guy. With this kind of competition
you must be willing to invest both time and money to be successful.
Having a great voice is only one part of this business. You
must know how to use and market that great sounding voice. You must
be diverse in your efforts, fair in your pricing and both willing
and able to take criticism and learn from those that have come before
you; gleaning from both their success and their failures.
You must have a professional demo that utilizes stellar copy
and has been produced in a way that best highlights your vocal strengths.
This demo must be up to par with the rest of the industry and other
talent in your experience level. Your demo makes or breaks your
career but without one you have no chance of getting work. The demo
creation process is very particular and is not as simple as just
reading and recording one commercial.
Marketing is key. The best VO artists in the world know that
their success is dependent upon exposure of their voice and their
name. In fact, sometimes it's not the best talent that has success
but the one who is diligent about marketing. Most talent make it
a rule to invest 15% or more of their total yearly vo earnings into
their marketing efforts. In the beginning most talent put 100% of
their earnings into marketing.
Studio access is absolutely necessary! Technology and downsizing
have changed this industry and few clients will pay for studio time.
Talent are required to have access to their own top-quality recording
facility, everyday. Whether it be your own or someone else's you
must make sure that prices are fair to you, the sound is no less
than broadcast quality and that you can book a session with little
to no notice. (home studios can cost anywhere from $500 to $10,000
& professional studio rates are between $100 and $300 per hour).
How good a salesman are you? Voiceover work is not acting!
While it is most certainly a direct cousin to the acting world,
and actors and singers do make fantastic VO talent; getting jobs
depends on how skilled you are at selling a product the way the
client wants you to. You must be skilled at taking direction, working
behind a microphone and adapting your read.
You
must crawl before you can run. If your primary goal is to be
a cartoon voice, a character talent or an impressionist but you
have no previous VO experience
slow down. Your goal is one
of the most advanced areas of the industry and will be a long and
arduous journey to obtain. You must learn the basics of the industry
and be able to perform "straight", simple vo's for radio
and TV first. |
